Vonage VoIP Subscribers Have Some Good Alternatives

A lot of Vonage customers are likely to be a little worried about the future of their VoIP service right now, and with good reason. Vonage is in the middle of a huge lawsuit that could shut them down if they’re found guilty of using Verizon’s patented technologies. On top of that, Vonage has been teetering on the brink of financial trouble for the past year or so. Although they are still providing good VoIP service, and are now allowed to continue signing up customers (the courts put a stop to new customers a month or so ago, but reversed the decision when Vonage appealed), Vonage appears to be on shaky ground.

So what do you do if you have Vonage broadband phone service and feel you want to bail out in the event this VoIP company closes it’s doors? You switch to another VoIP provider.

Switching to another VoIP provider is easy, and in most cases you can still keep your same phone number. A few internet phone service providers are now offering special deals for current Vonage customers, which makes jumping ship a cheap and painless process.

Lingo is offering Vonage customers free activation and VoIP adapter shipping. These “startup” costs usually run around $40, but if you are switching from Vonage, it’s free for you. Lingo is a fairly large VoIP service provider that offers high quality service. Lingo is known for it’s cheap international calling features, as parent company Primus Telecommunications is a huge global network services provider. Lingo offers several plans to choose from, and is currently offering free unlimited international calling to 21 overseas destinations with a subscription to it’s unlimited “Chatterbox” plan. This plan is currently on sale for $17.95 for the first 6 months, then it goes up to $21.95 a month thereafter. Lingo also has a 500 minute plan for $14.95 a month and a softphone plan for $7.95 a month. More information on Lingo.

Packet8 is also waiving it’s $30 activation fee for Vonage customers who want to switch. The current Packet 8 special deal (for everyone, not just Vonage customers) is a free month of service as well as a free VoIP adapter. Packet8 is best known for it’s business VoIP service, and is a part of the 8X8 Corporation. 8X8 has been in the telecommunications business for a long time, and they are considered to be one of the “pioneers” in the VoIP industry. Packet8 VoIP service is very high quality, and the price is low. I personally use Packet8 residential phone service and am 100% pleased with the quality of service. Several plans are available, including the most popular Unlimited service for $19.99 a month. Packet8 has a free softphone for subscribers too. They also have a cheap international plan as well as a “limited” plan. More information on Packet8.

Sunrocket and VoIP.com are not offering any special deals to Vonage customers, but they really don’t need to. These companies offer cheap annual unlimited calling plans for $199 a year, and the quality of service is outstanding. More information on Sun Rocket.

Sunrocket VoIP’s unlimited plan includes 100 minutes of free international calls. VoIP.com’s unlimited plan includes a free softphone. If you’re in the market for the cheapest internet phone service plan that also delivers exceptional quality – one of these VoIP providers is the perfect choice. Since I don’t make international calls, I would choose Voip.com so I could get the free softphone service. That way, I could take my VoIP phone with me wherever I travel! More information on Voip.com.

Whether you’re a nervous Vonage customer or just thinking about subscribing to VoIP internet phone service for the first time, you can be certain that the VoIP providers mentioned in this post are all financially sound and in it for the “long haul”.
